Pelophryne api is known from limestone outcrops in east Sarawak (Mulu National Park). It is a dark frog with indistinct markings. Males call from limestone rocks of low vegetation with a high pitched call. Reproduction, life habits and ecology of this species are unknown.

Size of adults: <20 mm snout-vent length.
Pelophryne api likely has tadpoles. These could be endotrophic as some other Pelophryne. We hope to add images of larval life stages at a later point.
