Philautus mjobergi is a small, stocky frog. Males are 18–24 mm, females 22–32 mm snout-vent length.

Philautus mjobergi belongs to a confusingly variable species group. It inhabits submontane to montaine forest (900–3,000 m asl).
The reproductive mode of this species is presumably direct development.
