Leptobrachella brevicrus

Short-legged Dwarf Litter Frog

Leptobrachella brevicrus

Leptobrachella brevicrus is a highland species that has been reported from >1.000 m in montane forest of Gunung Mulu. It occurs in the same habitat with L. itiokai. Both species are quite similar in appearance. The two species seem to occupy different ecological niches insofar as the calls are different (buzzing in L. brevicrus; chirp in L. itiokai) and male L. brevicrus prefer hidden calling sites whereas L. itiokai perch exposed on low vegetation. L. brevicrus is slightly larger than L. itiokai, but still a small frog (commonly <20 mm).
