Microhyla maculifera is a very small (males: 12-13 mm SVL), rare species. Very little is know about its biology. It has been described from Danum Valley, Sabah. The species is named after the spots on the shoulders. The photo below shows a paratype specimen kindly provided by the Field Museum Chicago, FMNH231272
