Sticky Frogs

These are mostly small, terrestrial microhylid frogs. They are capable of excreting extremely sticky substances from their skin, which can deter predators. Currently, more than two dozen species are recognized, with the possibility of additional species yet to be discovered. Their distribution includes the Greater Sunda Islands, the Philippines, and Southeast Asia, extending as far north as China.

The identification of Bornean species is challenging due to unresolved taxonomy, vague or insufficient original species descriptions, a lack of verified DNA samples, and the likely presence of undescribed taxa that do not fit current identification keys.
