rhacodus
Limnonectes rhacodus is a mysterious species, originally reported from Northern and central Kalimantan, Indonesia by Inger et al. (1996) under the original name Rana rhacoda. It is a surprisingly small Limnonectes, measuring only 21-24 mm from snout to vent in adult females. The fourth toe is fully webbed. The tympanum is partially obscured by skin. The dorsolateral skin fold is interrupted. The dorsal skin forms numerous transverse wrinkles. Unlike Limnonectes fichi, for example, there is no inverted V-shaped fold between the shoulders.
The presence of transverse wrinkles and similar size led to the confusion of L. rhacoda with what is now recognized as Occidocyga berbeza in a paper by Pui et al. (2013). Note, that O. berbeza has a different head shape and a more smooth skin structure than L. rhacodus. Also L. rhacodus has two lateral and one medial ondontoid processes in the lower jaw (O. berbeza: one medial). The case was explained in Matsui et al. (2021) and O. berbeza was established in that paper for what had already been assigned to the genus Occidozyga, but erroneously referred to as Occidozyga rhacoda in Flury et al. (2021).
The natural history of this species is unknown.
